High speed Internet service is cheap in Edmonton, so naturally we have
that. Besides the 4 cats running around, there's also over 2500 feet
of Cat 5 in our walls (that's twisted pair wiring to you twisted
readers). Computers with sound cards abound. What
really bugs
me about all this is that we can't just utter a phrase
like, "House? Phone our local friends and put through the first one who
answers," and have it done. Here's all it seems like we'll need...
- Computers running an
open source
operating system;
- voice recognition software, such as
IBM ViaVoice;
- telephony software, such as...
- Then all I'd need is some hardware to let a computer listen and
distinguish between at least 8 different locations around the house!
